Update
KNYSNA NEWS - At the Cape Boerperd SA National Championships in Somerset East from 5 to 7 September, two Knysna horse riders made our little town proud with impressive results right across the board.
The championships involved three-gaited and five-gaited horses as well as cart-pulling, single harness and fine harness classes over the course of the three-day competition.
The two locals who participated and did Knysna proud with well-trained horses, achieving excellent results, were Nadezhca de Jongh and Wilfred Gelderblom.
Nadezhca won the five-gaited class for riders 19-and-under on the back of her trusted horse Waterkrans Showring, and was crowned SA champion. Wilfred was crowned reserve SA champion in the single harness class with the beautiful and proud Cape Boerperd, Colchester Monti Carlo.
Wilfred was also placed fourth in the grand final of the three-gaited class, again on the back of Colchester Monti Carlo.
Both Wilfred and Nadezhca are based in and ride for the Smit Stables in Welbedacht Lane. All the classes were represented by fine horses from all over South Africa and the competition was, as always, of high standard, with well-trained horses and riders.
