SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Sport and music lovers have plenty to look forward to in Ladismith later this month when the popular 7Weekspoort MTB & Trail Run Challenge returns.
The event, set for Saturday 27 September at Karoo62Escapes along the R62, has grown into far more than just a test of endurance.
With new routes on offer, a festive atmosphere and the Karoo Rocks Music Festival to round off the weekend, it has become one of the Western Cape’s top outdoor gatherings.
Sponsored by Ladismith Cheese and hosted by Chain Gang Events, the challenge draws cyclists and runners from across the province.
Distances include 29km, a 43km route that allows e-bikes, and the gruelling 85km mountain bike race. Trail runners can choose to tackle either the 10km or 21km route.
Organisers have added fresh trails this year to keep participants on their toes.
The Ladismith community turns out in force to support the athletes, lining the routes and giving the day a festive local flavour.
After the dust of the races settles, the energy shifts to the stage where Francois van Coke and other well-known names will headline the Karoo Rocks Music Festival.
Those travelling from outside the area can stay at Karoo62Escapes, which offers chalets and other self-catering accommodation just 10km from Ladismith.
Whether you come to push your limits on the course, enjoy the music or soak up the Karoo’s charm, the 7Weekspoort Challenge offers an unforgettable weekend.
