KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The Shotokan Knysna and Plettenberg Bay dojos were recently well represented at a tournament held in Cape Town where nearly 200 competitors took part from 13 dojos, representing five federations and five styles.
Of these competitors, 18 were karateka from the Shotokan Knysna and Plettenberg Bay dojos, that are affiliated with the World Shotokan Karate-do Federation (WSKF).
"As parents it's our duty to allow the children all the opportunity, exposure and lessons life afford us, to channel development and growth and support their needs, and to fulfill our responsibility to helping them become better qualified adults," said John Peach, sensei at the two dojos.
The group of students from Knysna and Plett excelled during the competition, and brought home a haul of 18 medals. Peach expressed his pride in his students.
"My experience is that not just good karate is what wins the day… but beating all the variables does… weather, environment, preparation, anxiety, uncertainty, confidence, travel, prior/current illness and varying referee/judging standards," he said.
"All these elements play a part in determining the storm. 'A good yacht does not always win a race. Fall down seven times - stand up eight' – Japanese proverb."
Karateka from the Plett dojo Aiden Whitehead and Zach de Wet.
