KNYSNA SPORT NEWS - The Knysna Bowling Club has reached the business end of the summer season, with the first of three business bowls leagues set to commence at the club tomorrow.
Late summer at KBC is always a busy time of year, especially if you are a non-bowler wanting to play the game with three other work colleagues or friends in a competitive environment for the stronger teams and pseudo-competitive environment for complete beginners. KBC Business League is held three times a year and is ideal for young and old, male and female, and even people with disabilities.
The first league of the year will commence tomorrow 14 February, and is played over five consecutive Friday evenings over 12 ends from 16:00 onwards, although some businesses are only able to begin at 17:00 due to their trading/operating hours. "For complete beginners, club members will be available for coaching prior to play on each day, on each day," said KBC's Chris Patton.
Bowls will be provided, and the only real requirement for this league is to wear flat-soled shoes (or bare feet) so as not to damage the greens.
"The club has smaller bowls available for use in the league for women and youngsters with smaller hands," Patton said. You can contact Stephen Botha on 082 440 6497 or email Stephen.Botha197@gmail.com for entry forms and other information.
According to Patton, although teams of four are required, if there are a keen single, couple or threesome wanting to play they are welcome to make enquiries, as there are many spare beginner members, and composite teams get put together every season.
On the final Friday, 13 March, there will be a prize giving ceremony and finger supper served. On other nights the club's kitchen serves delicious take-away food to order, and the club bar is on hand for refreshments. "It's always a lot of fun, and it's easy to take part among fellow beginners, and many local businesses use it as a team building exercise," Patton said.
Valentine's Trips
Then, aimed more at registered bowlers at local clubs, or bowlers on holiday, the bowls club is hosting its annual Valentine's Mixed Trips on Sunday 16 February. "This provides bowlers, looking to have a bit of fun, a chance to dress up in red and pink and even drag if you like," Patton pointed out.
As it is mixed trips, teams must consist of three players, with at least one member of each sex. There are still places available, so contact Marion Ward on 060 988 0758 or knysnabowls@gmail.com to enter a team. Fabulous prizes are on offer for best performing and best dressed teams.
Knysna Bowling Club's Business Leagues attract anyone and everyone with an interest in bowling.
