KNYSNA NEWS - A week after Ron Weissenberg had a heart attack in Knysna, he was back on the road again, walking and shuffling the 5km Harkerville parkrun.
“Just over a week ago, on 22 March, I had a heart attack as I completed my 311th parkrun in Knysna,” said Weissenberg.
“Five days later, after being discharged from ICU with a new stent and unblocked coronary artery, the cardiologist insisted I continue with parkrun.
“I thought I would be restricted to volunteering only, but the doctor was adamant: Walk, jog, keep going! “ said Weissenberg.
He said “with much trepidation” exactly seven days after the heart attack, he was “delighted” to record his personal “worst” time of 57 minutes and complete his 312th parkrun at Harkerville.
Weissenberg said he was “feeling absolutely fine” after the parkrun. “Heather Kennedy, the race director was most kind and let me take a commemorative picture with her at the finish area.
“Thank you to Heather, to our amazing volunteers and thank you to parkrun!
“I hope my short story motivates those who have had health issues to enjoy the healthful benefits and social support parkrun provides,” said Weissenberg.
“You are all fantastic! Thank you for showing up and being such an integral part of so many lives,” added Weissenberg.
