PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - This festive season Plett will be all about polo as the coastal holiday town continues the tradition of hosting an international test match.
The Plett Polo International test match – which is highly anticipated and well attended every year – is set to take place on December 29, 2017 at Kurland.
Some of South Africa’s top polo players will battle it out on the polo field against international teams.
Plett Tourism spokesperson Patty Butterworth said that the event was more than just about world-class polo, but something for the entire family to enjoy.
“Whether you are enjoying yourself in a picnic spot or are viewing the match from one of the VIP boxes, the thrill of watching highly trained polo ponies galloping across the field is endless,” Butterworth said.
She added that this year there would be several new additions to the programme including a trendy dedicated gin bar next to the new “after-party tent”.
“A delicious selection of gourmet food trucks will be on hand to take care of all your hunger needs. We are also introducing a new bar for the east bank, so that the picnic goers and grandstand seating don’t have to travel too far for a refreshment.”
The day will end with an exciting collection of live music.
In the run-up Plett residents and visitors will be treated to the annual pony parade through the town’s Main Street.
On December 27, 2017 both the Springbok polo players and opposing international players will parade their ponies. Accompanying this procession there will be music trucks, banner holders, flag bearers and people giving out Plett Polo caps.
“The polo industry in Plettenberg Bay adds so much to the Plett economy, this is a chance for the residents of Plett to give back and come and enjoy the spectacle of this unique extravaganza.
"If horses aren’t your thing, just come to support your national team or offer a gentlemanly cheer to the visitors.”
