KNYSNA NEWS - Jessica Turpin, a learner at Oakhill School, recently raked in two gold medals in the photographic and contemporary dance categories at the South African Championships of Performing Arts' (SACOPA) national competition, held in Rustenburg.
Her accomplishments include winning an additional two bronze and one silver medal in the jazz and ballet dance categories.
This impressive performance has earned her a place in the South African team, set to travel to Los Angeles in July next year to participate in the annual World Championships of Performing Arts, highlighting her as a rising star in the performing arts.
The SACOPA serves as a national platform for both novice and experienced performers, showcasing a variety of arts including acting, dance, instrumental music, modelling, and vocals.
True passion
Jessica's journey in modelling began just two years ago, following a suggestion by one of her dance teachers, who recognised her natural talent. While she has excelled in modelling, her true passion lies in dancing, a form of expression she describes as essential to her daily life.
"Dancing is like the air I breathe; I can't get through a day without it," she shared.
She loves learning new and challenging moves, particularly in breakdancing, which she describes as a very expressive art form.
Dancing is Jessica's great passion.
When pressed where she thinks her tremendous talent might take her in the future, she said that she would definitely consider a career in dancing one day together with physiotherapy, to get a better understanding of the anatomy of the human body.
Her mother, Charlene Turpin, beams with pride over Jessica's accomplishments.
'Talented, kind child'
"Jessica is a real go-getter and her day is typically full of activities. I feel blessed to have such a talented, kind child that gets along with everybody.
"Evidently there is no limit to what she can achieve which is why as her parents we will do our all to support her journey."
Fundraising events
To help cover the cost of her trip to Los Angeles, the Turpin family will hold fundraising events, starting from January next year.
