KNYSNA NEWS – The Sidwell Roman School of Ballet attended the Port Elizabeth Dance Festival from Thursday to Saturday, 25 to 27 August, earning a healthy number of prizes for the dance studio.
Thirteen ballerinas and one ballerino aged seven to 18 years represented their ballet studio and performed 34 dances.
Teachers, Sidwell Roman and Courtney-Drew Meyer, are extremely proud of their results as their dancers brought back 21 gold, 11 silver and two bronze medals - not a single dance went without a medal.
From the hundreds of dances in different categories, only 22 were handpicked by the adjudicators to perform again at the gala event on Saturday evening, and the Mamma Mia! Group (aged 7 to 10) from the Sidwell Roman School of Ballet was one of them.
The Sidwell Roman School of Ballet also won five special awards.
Christina Jonsson (8) won the 7 to 8 years solos category. Zélie de Villiers (11) was one of the section winners for the 11- to 12-year solos, one of the section winners for the 11- to 12-year national solos and she won the overall best junior national floating trophy.
Tiffany Meyer (18) won the 17- to 18-year national solos.
