Update
KNYSNA SPORT NEWS - Knysna Primary School's Kelly Paton made the trip to George for the Eden regional showjumping competition on 8 August with high hopes, but unfortunately for the young horse rider, Lady Luck left her in the lurch.
Kelly was selected for the Eden competition after she came third in the SA National Equestrian Schools' Association (Sanesa) primary schools eventing in George during the weekend of 26 to 28 July.
Kelly and her pony Serenity then travelled to George to try and bring back some silverware, but unfortunately Serenity pulled up lame according to Kelly's mom, Robyn Paton. "She didn't get to ride," said a disappointed Paton.
"Her trusty pony Serenity was lame. We're not sure what the cause was, but she injured her right hind leg in the week before the event. You are not allowed to substitute another horse, as they had to qualify for the event as a horse-and-rider team.
"She was very disappointed, but your horse's welfare comes first! So she spent the weekend helping the organisers collect scores and supporting her team-mates," Paton said proudly. She further explained that sadly the season is over for 2019, but they are looking forward to taking part in the Sanesa events again next year.
