KNYSNA NEWS - What goes down better in summer than a cocktail on the beach as the sun slowly sinks over the sea? Well, a game of bowls according to the Knysna Bowling Club!
This summer will see the club host yet another of its exciting, all-inclusive Summer Business League tournaments which brings together locals from all walks of life to the enticing bowling greens the club looks after so meticulously.
The organisers of the 2019 edition of the tournament want this year's tournament to be bigger and better than ever before though, and instead of only using two bowling greens this time round, they aim at filling all three greens the club possesses.
"Our previous Businesses League Tournament was very well supported with two full greens in use and 24 teams taking part. For our Summer League we are looking to host three full greens and 36 teams, so don't delay, book you teams in to secure your place in this fun filled event," said Paula Dhanani, club member.
As usual, the league will take place over five weeks, each game being played on a Friday. Games will be played on 15 and 22 February, as well as 1, 8 and 15 March. For those worried about a rainy day spoiling the game, any games not played will be completed the following Tuesday.
Play will start at 16:00 onwards on game days, allowing for a quick practice and a few sips of your chosen libation beforehand, and will entail 12 ends per game with a 3,2,1 scoring system - that's six points per end, with the team closest to the jack (that's the little white ball you aim at, often in vain as your bowl veers off into its own direction) who gets to start the next end.

Entry fee per team of four will again cost a mere R500 and includes a seat at the prize giving party on the final evening. Here it becomes clear, out of past experience, that proper friendships are formed during these leagues as all participants cheer for each other, share some laughter, and regale newfound friends with tales of their bowling prowess.
"Also, for the very new recruits we are offering, free of charge, coaching at the club on Friday 8 February from 16:00 onward," Dhanani added.

Some participants become the biggest of friends during these tournaments.
