SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The Pro Shop National Golf Festival, dubbed as 'The best winter golfing experience in South Africa', is returning to the Garden Route from 23 to 26 August. A lot of excitement is building for this national event that attracts players from all over the country.
Local players are invited to join the field with well-known celebrity TV presenter, Arnold Geerdts, who will also be the MC at the official prize-giving function at Fancourt. A keen golfer, Geerdts is currently a 12 handicapper, but says he often uses his short game to spectacular effect - off the tee! He has run more than 160 marathons and ultra marathons, has a 42,2km marathon best of 2 hours and 29 minutes (which ranks him in the top 100 in SA) and has completed 11 Comrades Marathons.
The festival offers participants a unique concept where they can choose from 18 golf days at 9 top Garden Route golf courses (namely Fancourt Outeniqua, Fancourt Montagu, George, Oubaai, Simola, Mossel Bay, Pinnacle Point, Kingswood and Pezula) over the four days of the festival. The festival caters for players of all skill levels, no matter what their handicap is, and uses a unique point system to determine the overall winners in four categories.
More than R300 000's worth of prizes and 16 trophies will be handed out.
Local golfers and golf club members can join the festivities by entering for one or more of the golf days and contesting for the prize pool of each individual golf day.
Bookings close on 12 August. For more information or to book your place, please visit www.natgolfest.co.za.
