KNYSNA GOLF NEWS - More than 100 golfers laced up their golfing shoes and strapped up their golf bags for two days of golf in support of Famsa Knysna & Plett's annual golf fundraiser last week.
The two days were held separately, on Wednesday 11 August and Sunday 15 August, and at two different golf courses - Simola Golf & Country Estate and Pezula Championship Course.
For both days organisers introduced an interesting format known as "Blind Bogey Handicap", which threw participants off at first, but once they got into the thick of things it all started to flow (for most, at least).
In order for the format to work, golfers needed to play medal (count all of your shots, no points) up to three over par on a hole. Then, once they tallied up their gross score at the end of the round, they handed in their scorecards for the real math to be done to determine the winners.

A field of 50 players pitched up at Simola for the first day. After the final putt and the tallying of the scorecard, it was the four-ball of Saul Moss, David Wolman, Eliaz Hadad and Dan Goldberg who emerged victorious with a nett score of 294.
Four days later, a larger field of 63 golfers enjoyed midday tee-off times at Pezula. After the last ball dropped to the bottom of the cup it was once again the same four-ball that emerged victorious, albeit with a nett score of 286, to take top prize.
Even though they dominated the greens, the foursome could not get luck on their side as the lucky draw didn't go their way. Hein Waters and Francois Potgieter were the lucky winners of a R6 000 voucher at Cape Summer Villas each.
Famsa Knysna & Plett director Karin du Plessis expressed her gratitude for the support they received last week.
"This event is extremely important to us," she said. "It plays a big role in our annual fundraising efforts and once again we received great support from golfers, both local and from afar. We are immensely grateful, and the funds raised will go a long way to supporting our work of enhancing relationships and emotional well-being through counselling, training and community work."
