PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Former Oriented Birds captain Khanyisani "Mashesha" Radebe played his first game in the professional ranks this past weekend when he represented his new club, Milford, in a Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture against Casric Stars.
Following the game Radebe said he was "a bit disappointed" that Milford Football Club, based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, dropped points when going down 2-0 against Casric Stars, based in Pretoria.
Lucrative deal
Radebe, a decorated left-footed player, signed a lucrative deal with Milford, after impressing the club's management while undergoing trials at the club in January.
"It feels good to be a professional athlete," he told the Knysna-Plett Herald, adding that he wants "to try my best to make it in the Premier Soccer League (DStv Premiership)".
He said the "the atmosphere within the team (Milford) is great and positive".
Radebe said he was happy with his performance in the game against Casric Stars, even though Milford lost on the day.
'Stakes are high'
"There is always a big difference between the ABC Motsepe Provincial League and the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
"The stakes are high and the intensity is very high in the National First Division competition," he said.
Before joining Plettenberg Bay side Oriented Birds FC, Radebe played for various clubs, including AmaZulu FC, the Golden Arrows development team, Summerfield Dynamos, Ethekwini Coastal FC, Muzi King FC and Simunye FC in George.
The hard-working footballer won the Safa Eden Regional League title with two clubs. In the 2021/22 season, he won the title with Simunye FC and in the 2022/23 season with Oriented Birds.
