PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Sipho Mthembu (43), coach and mentor at the Kwano Cycling Academy, recently participated in the renowned Absa Cape Epic race, held in Cape Town from 15 to 23 March, to raise funds for the Buffalo Foundation, which supports the academy's local cycling programmes.
Mthembu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to race in the Absa Cape Epic, calling it a dream come true, and thanked the Buffalo Foundation for helping to make it possible.
Founded in 2014 by Colin Shave and his friends, the Kwano Cycling Academy aims to provide young cyclists with not only top-level training, but also educational support.
Mthembu, who joined as a coach in 2016, emphasised that the academy currently supports 120 children, helping them with their schoolwork in addition to their cycling training.
Based at Murray High School in Plettenberg Bay, the academy's riders participate in events like the Knysna Oyster Festival MTB, Tour de Plett and the Cape Epic, among others.
