KNYSNA NEWS - The Southern Stars FC women's team missed a golden chance to extend their lead at the top of the regional league standings after playing to a 2-2 draw against the Lidz Ladies FC on Saturday afternoon, 18 October.
The match was played at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.
Zimi Gxagxa and Thimna Boyce were on target for the Knysna-based team, while Avuzwa Nkosana and Simanye Mto found the net for the Plettenberg Bay side.
Southern Stars started strong, with Boyce and Lizelle Kamfer combining well in midfield to set up Gxagxa's opener.
However, Nkosana equalised for Lidz just before half-time with a well-taken goal.
In the second half, Mto stunned the crowd with a brilliant free kick to give Lidz a 2-1 lead.
Southern Stars fought back and were awarded a late penalty after a reckless challenge in the box. Boyce calmly converted, levelling the score.
Both teams now sit on 16 points, but Southern Stars lead the table with a superior goal difference, having scored 29 goals in six matches.
Tournament organisers praised the high quality of play. With the play-offs fast approaching, both teams remain strong contenders for promotion.
