FOOTBALL NEWS - The George Local Football Association (Geolfa) in partnership with Henra Civil Construction is currently hosting the Heritage diski competition for 2022. It kicked off last weekend with games played at various venues across George.
The final will be played on Sunday afternoon, 2 October. The Heritage Soccer Festival is an open soccer competition which allows many teams outside of George to participate.
George Herald attended two games, Oriented Birds vs Black Cats and Laliga vs Paris United 2nd, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday 24 September.
Oriented Birds (Plettenberg Bay) defeated Black Cats (George) 1-0 in their first fixture of the festival. OB's goal was netted by Khanyisani Radebe. The Birds kept pushing, launching a strong attack from the left side of the field, and Khanyisani Radebe scored within the first ten minutes after a beautiful cross inside the box.
This was followed by another attempt from Birds that saw the left wing back, Ayabulela Bhabha, delivering a long-range shot that went over the goal. The home side, Black Cats, tried to come back with aggressive play to make their opponents panic.

They received a corner kick but their striker failed to equalise. In the second half the Cats were disadvantaged when their centre back, Mivuyo Manzi, received a straight red card. However, the shot from the free kick by Birds' Khanyisani Radebe went straight to the Cats defenders, blocking Birds' opportunity for a second goal.
For a while Black Cats took the game from the visiting team and their goalkeeper, Sesethu Nyhunyha, made a brilliant save preventing a second goal for Birds. Nkosiyabo Toto fluffed a golden opportunity during the last minutes with the ball going wide.
In the second game, Laliga (Knysna) punished Paris United 2nd team (George) 3-0. The first half ended 2-0 with Laliga leading. The second half saw the Laliga players enjoying the game and putting more pressure on Paris United and they managed to hit the goal a third time.
