PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett Pioneers have secured a direct berth in the final of the SWD Promotion League after finishing top of the log at the conclusion of the pool stages.
Pioneers sealed their place with a hard-fought 12-run victory over Riversdale Cricket Club. Batting first, Plett were bowled out for 157 in 32 overs, before dismissing Riversdale for 145 in 28 overs to clinch the decisive win.
Despite suffering a 53-run defeat to Mossel Bay Cricket Club, Pirates United held onto second place on the log.
They will now face George B, who finished third after a commanding 145-run win over Heidelberg United.
George B piled up 280/3 in 50 overs before bowling Heidelberg United out for 135 in 28.2 overs.
The standout performer of the weekend was Heidelberg United's Corbin Swartbooi, who smashed 71 off 52 balls against George B on Saturday.
He followed it up with a sensational 190 off just 119 deliveries (12 sixes, 25 fours) against NMU Madibaz George on Sunday, although it was not enough to secure victory.
Pirates United and George B will meet in a qualifier on 7 March, with the winner advancing to face Plett Pioneers in the final on 21 March.
