KNYSNA NEWS - Led by Knysna Cavaliers captain Hayden Sweet, the Garden Route Badgers Colts had mixed success during their recent trip to Paarl where they took on the Boland Colts in three-day and one-day matches.
In a series of matches that was hosted at Boland Park in Paarl, the Boland Colts won a thrilling three-day encounter on the last ball of the final day after they successfully chased a target of 176 – from 35 overs – with two wickets in hand.
The three-day was played from 15 to 17 February and Sweet excelled with the bat with contributions of 80 in both the first and second innings.
Liyabona Malife (6/91) and (3/47), who plays his club cricket for Pacaltsdorp United, bagged nine wickets in the match.
In the 50-over match on Sunday 18 February, the Badgers Colts amassed 257/7 thanks to half-centuries by Matthew Christensen (89) of Harlequins Forces and Heath Richards (55) of Pacaltsdorp United.
Thanks to match-winning bowling performances by Grant Esau (3/29) from Union Stars and Malife (4/49), Boland Colts were dismissed for 176 as the Badgers won by 81 runs.
Knysna Cavaliers player Mesuli Vuba contributed to the winning efforts with two wickets of his own.
