KNYSNA CRICKET NEWS - Knysna Cavaliers Women's team was unable to enter the festive season on a high after narrowly losing the SWD Women's T20 League against Dysseldorp Women's team recently.
The Cavaliers Women's team travelled to Thembalethu on 1 December to take on the Dysselsdorp Cricket Club Women's team in one of three fixtures in the Women's T20 League.
Dysselsdorp played two games on the day, coming up against Thembalethu before facing Cavaliers in the afternoon, but couldn't manage to overcome the home side.
Cavaliers were looking to earn their first win of the season, in what has been the first structured women's cricket league under the auspices of SWD. Dysselsdorp would win the toss and send Cavaliers in to bat, with Kerry-Ann Baptista and Caron Grundlingh opening the batting for the team from Knysna. Cavaliers' batting effort would see them bowled out for runs, and Grundlingh and Nadia Nel top-scoring with eight runs apiece.
While 50 runs might seem like an easy target, Cavaliers' bowlers made life difficult for the Dysselsdorp batsmen, as opening bowlers Nel and Chanté Stroebel did well in the opening exchanges. Nel would manage to claim three wickets for 16 runs in her four overs, but it would be Stroebel that would walk away with the figures of the day as well as the match ball courtesy of a five-for that saw her take five wickets for 14 runs in her four overs.
That would be the extent of Cavaliers' good fortunes however, as Dysselsdorp would narrowly see the game through and win the low-scoring thriller by only two wickets.
