SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The SWD, on Sunday 4 March, continued their upward curve in their performances when they defeated Northerns, one of the top teams in provincial cricket in South Africa.
The match took place at Supersport Park in Centurion in the Cricket SA Provincial One Day competition.
"It was indeed a great team effort but Obus Pienaar's match-winning innings of 75 (from 71 balls; 1x6, 6x4) paved the way for a SWD victory," said Albertus Kennedy, CEO of SWD Cricket.
Being asked to bat first, SWD posted 242/8 with Hanno Kotze (37), Jean du Plessis (27), Letlotle Sesele (27) and Daniel Sincuba (27) – all offering vital support to Pienaar.
"The SWD bowlers maintained the pressure on the home team and in spite of contributions by Rubin Hermann (49) and Thomas Kaber (47*) Northerns failed to get the edge with the rain that threatens to bring an early end to proceedings," said Kennedy.
With their total at 140/5 (after 33 overs) the match was abandoned due to rain with SWD who were 13 runs ahead according to the Duckworth Lewis formula.
