KNYSNA CRICKET NEWS - For the second consecutive week, cricketers descended on the fields at Sport at Backward Point just outside Rheenendal, with three of the four fields playing host to the gentleman's game once again.
On Valentine's Day, Villagers Cricket returned to the fields for the first time in three months and four teams donned their whites for two exhibition matches.
A week later, on Sunday 21 February, many returned with Keith Cretchley preparing Abbottsfield A for an exhibition match between two Villagers teams, as well as a further two fields for some kids' cricket to take place once again.
On Abbottsfield A the Villagers were split up into the Villagers Strikers and Villagers Ramblers sides, and with a beautiful sky overhead there was promise of a glorious day of cricket.
The Ramblers won the toss and elected to field first, and as the innings went on the sky started to close and darken, and true to Knysna's unpredictable weather, midway through the first innings, play was halted briefly by rain. It wouldn't be long before play resumed however, and after a quick five-minute break the players were back on the field.
The Ramblers' bowling attack proved strong, doing away with the Strikers' batsmen at a good rate. Ramblers would manage to restrict their opponents to a manageable 115, with Leroy Nortje top-scoring with 31 runs for the Strikers, aided by scores of 21 from Lawrence Howell and Divan Luiters, while Quinton Visagie was the Ramblers' deadliest bowler with three wickets.

The Ramblers made light work of the chase, hauling in the target of 116 in 23 overs with only three wickets down. Visagie did well with the bat too, scoring 25 while Blake Linder top-scored with 32 runs, and André Terblanche scored 20 runs.
While the men were going at it on Abbottsfield A, cheers from proud and supportive parents could be heard from Abbottsfield C as u.11 sides from the Child Active Sports Academy in George battled it out in a friendly game.

Across the road on PG Bison A, Knysna Sports Academy (KSA) and Child Active were facing off. Child Active would bat first, scoring 129 with only eight wickets down. With ball in hand, they were then able to restrict KSA to 96 all out, securing Child Active a 33-run victory.
