KNYSNA NEWS - The Hornlee Sport Grounds recently played host to an incredibly special day of cricket, with hundreds of primary school learners taking part in a KFC Mini Cricket Festival.
Organised by SWD Cricket, KFC Mini Cricket Festivals are typically hosted in Oudtshoorn, but, for the safety of the participating learners, each region within SWD can host its own festival this year.
Coordinator of KFC Mini Cricket in Knysna, Christelle September, said all learners and coaches thoroughly enjoyed the special day with parents and it was an encouragement for learners who love cricket to finally have a turn to play against schools in the Knysna region.
"I want to thank each school in Knysna for their participation, and of course also SWD Cricket who made the day special.
"These days are important in looking for new talent, because at the end of the day these players exit the mini-cricket programme and start their journey to becoming professional players by joining academies like the Knysna Sport Academy," she said.
September also extended a huge thank you to Caltex Van Halderen for sponsoring the medals and LaserWorx DCD for engraving the medals. Children from Rheenendal Primary School who took part in the KFC Mini Cricket Festival.
"I would further like to thank all the teachers from Sunridge Primary for helping to make the day run smoothly and for the parents for enjoying the day with their children," she said.
"If parents are interested in having their children take part in mini cricket, they can contact their child's school and ask for the mini-cricket coaches at the child's school.
"We want to give children wings to fly, and roots to grow, both academically and in sport."
