ATHLETICS NEWS - Local long-legged athlete Lloyd Bosman completed his first Two Oceans ultramarathon (56km) last weekend in Cape Town. And were it not for some nasty cramps around the 44km mark, he believes he could have made it into the top 10 or even top five.
Bosman, who took a 12th place with a time of 03:16:11 in what is known as the world's most beautiful marathon, said he thoroughly enjoyed the race and can't wait to be back next year. He competed against about 20 000 other athletes.
"This is my first ultra Two Oceans. It was a great experience to run with the athletes who have been doing marathons for years and I really enjoyed it. As ultras do, it will probably get harder, but I can't wait to be back next year," Bosman said.
He likened his experience to playing test rugby as opposed to playing in the Currie Cup or Sevens Series.
"Test rugby is much slower. The same as ultramarathons - slower, more focused and more structured. I'm just moving up a bit now and taking on the longer distances," he said.
And while Bosman is recovering from the weekend, he is already looking forward to one of his favourite 21km races, the Safari Wellington Half Marathon, in Wellington two weeks from now.
