KNYSNA ATHLETICS NEWS - Knysna Primary School's Blue Team walked away with top prize at the school's annual interhouse athletics competition, after two days of running, jumping, and throwing at the school's sports fields.
The competition started on Monday 20 January, with preliminary rounds to determine which athletes would take part in the final rounds that took place on Thursday 23 January.
The second day of action was perfectly suited to athletics, with blue skies overhead and a bit of a breeze in the air to help keep the athletes cool in the sun.
The final day's proceedings got under way in the morning with all of the field items taking place. All the items had wrapped up by 14:00. The best field athletes were named too, based on the most points in a single event. In the junior (U7 to U9) boys category, it was Kay Stewart, while in the junior girls category it was Trinity Law, with both getting the prize for their long jump exploits.

The top senior boy was Isaiah Abrahams (80m sprint) and the top senior girl was Helena Neethling (70m sprint).
The overall best athletes of the day, the Victor and Victorix Ludorum prizes were also named. The top junior boy and girl were once again Malgas and De Villiers respectively. In the senior boys, it was Luchan Booysen and in the senior girls it was Neethling who got the top prize.
Throughout the course of the day the spirit trophy candidates were also monitored, and it was the Green Team that walked away with the award.
The overall team standings were incredibly close too, as there was only 11 points between the first and third-placed teams. It was however the Blue Team that emerged victorious with 479 points, the Green Team second with 473 points, and the Red Team third with 468 points.
