PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Despite the hot weather on Saturday, the second of three events in the Buco Adventure Breakfast Trail Run series attracted more than 100 runners who took on the challenging yet scenic routes at the Moss and Maple Farm Stall in the Crags, on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay.
The event, which started at 08:30, included a 5km and a 10,5km route.
"With a large part of the route traversing MTO plantations and then a host of private farms, runners were once again treated to once-a-year access to some amazing trails," said organiser James Stewart of Muddy Foot Adventures.
"With the heat building, all 104 runners were off the course by 10:30 having earned their bacon and egg." Current series leader Rodney Prins held his lead in the series for the longer distance with a time of 46:05. Not far behind was Siuyile Qole, crossing the finish line in a time of 47:47. The last spot on the podium went to MelaKhaya Msizi with his time of 49:01.
Amy Perold claimed the women's win this week with a time of 01:10:39, Michele Botha came second with a time of 01:12:49 and Suzaan Groenewald finished third with a time of 01:13:22.
The star of the day, however, was the nine-year-old Sam Proctor who blitzed the 5km course in a time of 31:51.
The final series event takes place on Sunday 6 December at Covie, a tranquil hamlet above Nature's Valley, with two route choices.
