KNYSNA NEWS - Reports emerged this week that findings of an investigation into misconduct levelled against former Knysna municipal manager Kam Chetty was presented during a special council meeting on Tuesday 4 September.
It is believed the investigation was conducted by an independent prosecutor from Pretoria, and that council accepted the findings and made certain resolutions.
The municipality refused to divulge details on the resolutions made by council, and would not say if Chetty will be charged as a result. They only released a statement, saying, “The special council meeting was in-committee and the items have been referred to the municipal public accounts committee for further investigation.”
However, sources claim that the investigation will be pursued and Chetty will be formally charged in coming weeks.
The 59-year-old Chetty resigned on 8 July – only a year after taking up the reins of municipal manager in Knysna.
According to reports, allegations of misconduct against Chetty were made by staff members and council thereafter agreed to have the matter investigated. It is common practice to appoint an independent prosecutor when a senior manager is being investigated.
