WESTERN CAPE NEWS - Alan Winde, who hails from Knysna, has secured a second term as Western Cape Premier during the first sitting of the 7th Parliament of the Western Cape today, 13 June.
Newly elected Members were sworn-in by the Acting Judge President of the Western Cape High Court, Particia Goliath.
This was followed by the election of the Premier, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Speaker Daylin Mitchell of the DA was also re-elected, while Reagen Allen was elected as Deputy Speaker.
Winde was nominated by George home boy, MPL Tertuis Simmers.
Winde went on to secure 26 votes, 12 more than that of the other nominee, Khalid Sayed of the ANC.
Forty-two members of the provincial parliament (MPLs) were sworn in. The DA took 55% of the votes in the Western Cape on 29 May and will rule the province with an outright majority.
Winde, who was born on 18 March 1965, is 59 years old and married to Tracy. The couple have two children, Jason and Lauren. In his spare time Winde likes to cycle and is a keen coffee drinker.
