KNYSNA NEWS & VIDEO - Members of the local branch of the South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) gathered outside Knysna Municipality earlier today, Tuesday 24 October, to hold a demonstration in support of municipal workers' rights.
The objective of the demonstration was to deliver a memorandum outlining the basic demands of the municipal workforce and urging the municipality to take action in addressing administrative issues affecting the workers.
Representatives of Samwu handed over the memorandum to the whips of the governing parties of the municipality.
Afterwards, all workers convened for an annual general meeting to discuss the next steps on the issues outlined in the memorandum.
"The sole reason for handing over the memorandum was that these officials are aware of what workers want to be corrected at the municipality," said Jackson Bozo, provincial organiser for Samwu.
