Update
KNYSNA NEWS – Four municipal officials in the Knysna Municipality Council - the mayor, deputy mayor, speaker and whip - survived motions of no confidence brought against them during a special council meeting on Tuesday 31 May.
The special council meeting was held digitally.
The motions of no confidence against the Democratic Alliance's (DA) Hilton Stroebel (whip), Julie Lopes (speaker), Knysna Independence Movement councillor Mark Willemse (deputy mayor) and Levael Davis (mayor) were items on the agenda.
Not one of the four motions received enough votes from Council to pass however, and the four councillors hold their seats.
Two of the motions were proposed by the Patriotic Alliance (PA) following their withdrawal from the coalition with the DA, while the other two motions were brought forward by the ANC.
At the council meeting, Marlene Boyce was also appointed as acting municipal manager for one month, replacing Johan Jacobs.
