KNYSNA NEWS & VIDEO - DA Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela visited Knysna on Human Rights Day, Wednesday 21 March, and addressed about 100 people at the Chris Nissen Primary School in White Location, where he spoke about the DA’s offer for land reform.
Flanked by mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies, who received a warm welcome from residents, Madikizela said Human Rights Day is a day to remember our country’s dark past and commemorate those who fought for freedom.
'Permanent tenancy' not real reform
“As we celebrate Human Rights Day, our Constitution is under attack by the ANC and the EFF. They want to change the Constitution so that South Africans, in particular black South Africans, are permanent land tenants of the state.
"The ANC and EFF believe government should own all the land so that it can be rented back to South Africans. This is not real land reform. This is permanent tenancy and dependency.
"The DA does not agree with this. We support land reform and land redistribution.”
He said the DA wants to see landowners and title deed holders, and added, “People who own their property that their children can one day inherit. People who have the guarantee of property rights so that they can advance themselves and have access to the economy.”

'DA WC success rate 62%'
He told the cheering crowd that the DA has always stood for private property rights and that in the Western Cape, they have a land reform success rate of 62%.
“In the DA-run Western Cape, we have handed over more than 82 800 title deeds since 2009. More than 82 800 people in the Western Cape own their land. The DA did not change the Constitution to make people landowners. So why do the ANC and EFF want to do this?” he asked.
He concluded by saying that South Africans have a choice, a DA model for land reform which gives people ownership of their land, or an ANC/EFF model which sees people as lifelong land tenants.
“If you hope that one day you or your children will own land, you need to support the DA. If you choose the DA, you choose land ownership.”
