KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality recently appointed yet another new acting municipal manager (AMM), with Johannes Jonkers taking over the position from Raymond Esau who resigned from the position 'due to personal reasons'.
The municipality announced on its social media platforms on 27 July that, during the special council meeting on 21 July, the council resolved to appoint Johannes Jonkers as the new AMM.
He will serve in this position for three months, beginning on Monday 25 July, "or until the vacant municipal manager position is filled, whichever period comes first".
Jonkers has held management positions in both the private sector and local government and has a wealth of experience to take Knysna forward. "We welcome him and his family to our beautiful town," the post read.
According to municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt, Jonkers has served the Central Karoo District Municipality for a decade as the manager of regional tourism/LED/risk and six years as the director of corporate and strategic support services.
More recently he was the municipal manager in the Theewaterskloof Local Municipality in the Western Cape.
Jonkers replaces Raymond Esau, who was in office for little more than a month, having taking up the position on 9 June. Esau himself replaced Marlene Boyce who was appointed from 31 May for one month whereafter the situation would be reviewed.
Within a week, however, during a special council meeting on Tuesday 7 June, an amended motion of exigency by Councillor Alberto Marbi was carried out that saw council terminate the contract with Boyce. The position of AMM had been vacant since former AMM Dawid Adonis resigned in late February to join Cederberg Municipality as municipal manager.
