NATIONAL NEWS - Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says it would be unconstitutional to punish Members of Parliament who voted with the opposition in the no confidence secret ballot.
President Jacob Zuma survived last week’s motion by 21 votes, with more than two dozen ANC MPs voting to unseat him.
Gordhan says it would be going against the Constitution to discipline members.
“Again, the Constitutional Court judgement and the Speaker’s statement says that nothing can be done and it will be unconstitutional to do so.”
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula recently suggested in a tweet that ANC MPs take a lie detector test to determine who voted with opposition parties during the no confidence vote.
Mbalula was not the first ANC member to speak out against members who voted for Zuma to go.
