Statistics South Africa released its victims of crime survey in Pretoria on Tuesday, which found that while South Africans are increasingly fearful of crime, trust in the police has declined.
The study found that the main reason South Africans are dissatisfied with the police is because they don’t respond to calls for help on time.
Four out of five respondents who said they were dissatisfied with the police felt this way because of poor response time while half of the respondents believed the police were corrupt.
The survey also found that fewer South Africans are satisfied with the courts, a drop from 64 percent to 54 percent.
