Nulliah Siddamma, a Merebank resident who lives on her own, said that a day before the robbery, a woman called her claiming that she knew her and her family and wanted to pay her a visit.
The pensioner who believed that this lady might be a relative agreed to the visit. “The following day, the woman who had black stripes on her face, came to see me. I invited her in and she began talking about my family as if she knew them. She then said that she was an official at the MTSS Hall and invited me to join the senior citizens on their annual trips,” she said.
Siddamma continued to speak to the woman. “She was persistent about me joining her on the trips and asked me a few personal questions about how much money I have and where I keep it. She also wanted to have a look at the other rooms and asked if the bangles on my wrists were real gold. At that time, I did not find it strange. I felt as if I wasn’t in my right state of mind,” she added.
