NATIONAL NEWS - A devastating house fire in Oakley near Mkhuhlu in Mpumalanga claimed the lives of a couple yesterday.
Neighbours who noticed the house burning managed to extinguish the fire, but it was too late to save the lives of the two people trapped inside. They were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
According to neighbours on the scene, the couple have been fighting for at least a day before the fire broke out.
They also claimed that the mother managed to throw her small child out a window to save her life before flames engulfed the house.
The police were on the scene yesterday to gather information for their investigation. They did not release a statement at the time of publishing.
The names of the deceased have not been made public yet.
