NATIONAL NEWS - A family had been taking photographs on the rocks at Thompson’s Bay Beach in Ballito, north of Durban on Sunday, when a wave washed a child into the surf.
Medi Response spokesperson, Paul Herbst, said a man then dived in after the child and managed to pass her to a relative. He then got into distress and was swept away.
“On arrival of rescue crews, an individual was spotted floating in the ocean. Medi Response rescue swimmers entered the water and managed to return to shore with the individual.
Despite extensive advanced life support attempts to resuscitate the man, he was declared dead on the scene, said Herbst.
