NATIONAL NEWS - The withdrawal of the experienced duo of Bismarck du Plessis and Frans Steyn from the Springbok squad for the duration of the series against England is another in a sequence of events that will have changed coach Rassie Erasmus’s initial plans.
It was announced in a press release late on Thursday that Du Plessis and Steyn, who were already unavailable for the first test against England on Saturday because they played in France last week, had been withdrawn from the group because of injury.
The release did not say what the injuries were, but stipulated that the injuries were sustained last weekend and they’d now be out for the entire series rather than just the Emirates Airlines Park test.
They were both expected to play a role in the second test in Bloemfontein.
According to the press release, the decision was taken to withdraw them from the entire series after further investigations were undertaken and specialist medical opinions were sought, thus putting on hold their respective returns to the Bok fold.
