Seventeen people were arrested following a recent roadblock which was held on the R24 Tarlton road adjacent the Krugersdorp Game Reserve over the Easter weekend.
Constable Lucky Matome, a police spokesperson said the road block was held in conjunction with the police, Mogale City Traffic Department and the immigration office to address issues associated with driving under the influence, unroadworthy vehicles, stolen goods and illegal immigrants.
The exercise was a success as 17 illegal immigrants were arrested and 43 traffic fines were issued, Matome said.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that our roads are safe,” said Colonel MM Filita, the Vispol Coordinator of the Krugersdorp Cluster, who spearheaded the roadblock.
All the arrested illegal immigrants are waiting to be deported back to their various countries.
