NATIONAL NEWS - After much of what was said to be dillydallying and dissatisfaction from its employees and members of the ruling party, the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has announced that it will be taking steps to implement consequence management envisaged to recover misused funds that runs into billions of rands by thirty three of its current and former employees, and private companies.
ELM’s supply chain management and the fleet department employees are among those implicated in a report by forensics company Comperio, which revealed massive looting within the ELM during the past five years.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, ELM’s Mayoral Spokesperson, Lebo Mofokeng said that ELM’s Executive Mayor, Gift Moerane will embark on disciplinary action following the outcomes of the investigation to the alleged reports on irregular, fruitless and unauthorized expenditure as mandated by the Council.
“The Executive Mayor, Moerane on Friday, 7 August 2020 received progress report from the Municipal Manager, Lucky Leseane pending disciplinary action to be rolled out by the municipality, which amongst others is informed by the Compero Forensic investigation. Today, we can with certainly report to the people of Emfuleni Local Municipality we taking all steps to implement consequence management, which is envisaged to recover funds which were incorrectly appropriated.”
Mofokeng said that further details will be provided in due course, once consultation has been finalized with all relevant municipal stakeholders.
