NATIONAL NEWS - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape has invited leaders of political parties, civil society organisations, faith based organisations, representatives of the African diaspora, business people, law enforcement agencies and all interested parties to a dialogue to discuss peaceful solutions to the ongoing violence that has been directed towards foreign nationals.
The discussion will take place today 11:00 at the City of Cape Town Council Chambers.
In a statement released by the party, Bonginkosi Madikizela - DA Western Cape Provincial Leader says a contributing factor to the ongoing social tension has been the deep inequalities in society and a poor economic trajectory. "We will therefore join hands with all of society to ensure that we can work together towards a shared and prosperous future.
"As the DA, we will outline what has been done to build a growing and inclusive economy in the Province, and what more can be done."
He appealed to all the people in our province to remain calm in light of the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa.
"Violence is not the solution to our problems. I’ve already received a number of calls from people who have been attacked and want decisive action to be taken by the leaders of this country.
"We’ve seen the damage this violence did to our province in 2008, let us not repeat the same mistakes."
He called upon all interested parties to add their voices to a dialogue geared towards sustainable action and solutions.
