NATIONAL NEWS - Advocate Gerrie Nel this morning announced that he and his team will be withdrawing from the Reshall Jimmy case.
“The interest of the family has been appropriately dealt with and we are satisfied that the inquest is proceeding in a way that we believe justice will prevail,” Andrew Leask, investigator at AfriForum’s private prosecution unit, told the George Herald this morning.
Jimmy (33), from Johannesburg, burnt to death in his Ford Kuga while on holiday in Wilderness in December 2015.
The inquest into Jimmy’s death was led by Nel on behalf of the Jimmy family.
The Jimmy family will attend proceedings whenever possible and Nel and his team will be available to offer further assistance and formal attendance if required.
“Our intention has always been to dispel the unfounded rumours and we are now convinced that the evidence led thus far excludes any indication linking the death of the deceased to any criminality, suicide or that he [Jimmy] was murdered as was rumoured at the commencement of the inquest,” Nel said in court this morning.
