Former SARS employee in court for fraud

NATIONAL NEWS - A former SA Revenue Services employee is due to appear in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.

Petrus Meyer, a former client analyst at SARS, is accused of assisting jailed businessman Arthur Webb to defraud SARS of more than six million rand.

The state alleges that Meyer helped Webb to submit fraudulent VAT refund claims.

Webb is already serving a 15-year jail sentence in terms of a plea agreement in which he heaped a lot of the blame on Meyer.

Meyer is expected to plead to the charges against him at Monday's court appearance
