Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police launched an unprecedented inquiry into the circumstances that led to controversial statements of support for National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega being issued by the South African Police Service (SAPS)’ board of commissioners in August.
Phiyega has since been suspended pending the outcome of an inquiry into her fitness to hold office.
The country's provincial commissioners were made to publicly apologise before Parliament's police committee for supporting Phiyega in August.
