MOTORING NEWS AND VIDEO They came, they saw and they conquered. Just like the Roman emperor Julius Ceaser and his army, the 26 fabulous Italian Lamborghini supercars secured a swift, conclusive victory during their Race SA visit to Mossel Bay on Thursday 22 August, making a lasting impression on the town.
But this time the Italian stallions conquered hearts and minds as young and old lined the streets as the super-fast cars made their way through town.
A lucky few were chosen to escort the drivers on a lap of honour from De Bakke to The Point and on a short, controlled and measured sprint up the steep Marsh Street hill, where hundreds of enthusiasts gathered to witness the spectacle.
With price tags of between R1,4m and R14m, a fleet of Lamborghinis proved to be a major attraction in Mossel Bay last week. Read more about these Italian stallions on page 4. Photos: Grey Stopforth, Julian Scholtz and Nickey le Roux
At De Bakke the drivers of the sleek supercars were extremely patient, allowing the public unhindered access to their vehicles and answering the many questions with smiles.
Then, with passengers in tow, the vehicles departed for a short stop-over at the St Blaize Cave where people were once again encouraged to photograph the lovely cars - and to pose for selfies with their favourite vehicles.
The sleek beauties headed up Marsh Street at breakneck speed.
Mishap managed
On their way to The Point, one of the vehicles had onlookers very worried when a faulty fuel line saw flames licking the engine.
Fortunately the owner and other drivers quickly put out the flames and when the Mossel Bay Municipality Fire and Rescue unit arrived one minute after being called - the fire had already been extinguished.
The vehicle was seen to by the support crew and reportedly rejoined the event after some repairs.

Marsh Street sprint
The metered, individualised time trial event up Marsh Street attracted the bulk of onlookers who revelled in the roar of the engines and the determination of the drivers to make the most of their cars.
As one of the onlookers wistfully put it as she longingly gazed at the last Lamborghini disappearing into the dusk: "At least we could share in some millionaires' fun for a few hours."
