KNYSNA NEWS - The battle for top spot in the KLFA Domestic League is in full force between Rheenendal-based football clubs Pine Stars and Young Stars, with the latter in the lead after last weekend's fixtures.
So far, Smutsville outfit Smuts United and Pine Stars have dominated the 2021/22 season with Pine Stars enjoying the most time at the top of the table, courtesy of a few good runs and the ability to string together some good results.
However, Young Stars have never been out of the equation, always managing to remain within touching distance of first place despite not occupying the position yet this season.

Heading into the round of fixtures on Saturday and Sunday, 26 and 27 March, Pine Stars and Young Stars were shining brightest at the top of the league, level on points.
Pine Stars were at the top on goal difference though, while Smuts United lay one point adrift in third place.
All three sides had the chance to go top, depending on the other sides' results. Both Young Stars and Pine Stars were in action on Saturday, and a win for either side would take them to the top as long as the other drew or lost their game.
Pine Stars faced sixth-placed FC Rebels first, playing out to a 1-1 draw.
In order to go top, Young Stars would have to beat United Brothers, and managed to earn a 3-1 win to ascend to first place for the first time this season.
Their win meant Smuts United were unable to reach first place, but they could still go second with a win.
They defeated Two for Joy 5-1 on Sunday to overtake Pine Stars for second place. The shuffle in order sees Young Stars top of the table on 49 points, Smuts United second on 48 points, and Pine Stars third on 47 points.
La Liga are a further four points back on 43 in fourth place.

In the KLFA Super League, the second division of local club football, Young Brothers moved clear of the pack in first place with a win against Pine Stars' second team.
This places Young Brothers on 10 points, with FC Rebels' second team in second place on nine points.
Future Stars are third, also on nine points, and Pine Stars 2 are fourth on seven points.
Further afield, in the Safa Eden Domestic Men's Regional League, a win and a draw for Knysna's FC United sees them lie in second place.

CX Celtics, also from Knysna, also earned a win and a draw, but are fifth in the league. Plettenberg Bay side Oriented Birds and Knysna side Red Eagles did not play last weekend, but are sixth and seventh in the league respectively.
