According to a close friend Perks was on her way from the Dutch Reformed church service to visit her friend Bennie Roberts on his farm in Fisantkraal when the fatal accident occurred. With her in her father’s Toyota Corolla was her nine-year-old son. The other car is believed to belong to a German couple traveling from Gauteng.
Knysna Presbyterian minister Wayne van Heerden believes he missed the collision by 30 seconds.
"It is still very surreal. I was first on the scene and saw two cars who had obviously just been in a collision of some sort with debris on the road. I did not see it happen. This is a really dangerous corner on the N2 and I'm not sure how we can address it, but urge authorities to either widen the road or drastically reduce the speed limit on that section."
The nine-year-old was discharged from the Knysna Provincial Hospital today, Monday, October 20. He suffered only minor injuries.
