KNYSNA NEWS - On Saturday, 24 February, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and Tertius Simmers visited Knysna to assess the conditions and severity of the waste transfer station.
The visit revealed shocking conditions, including the presence of squatters on the site posing great health risks and human rights violations.
Knysna's ongoing waste issues, including the location's proximity to the business district and the Knysna Estuary, have been a significant challenge for years.
Premier Winde emphasized the provincial government's responsibility in addressing the situation, issuing directives and proposing a diagnosis to the council for further intervention.
Tertius Simmers expressed concern about the infrastructure decay and the impact on the people of Knysna.
The visit also included inspections at the Khayalethu Dam and addressing ongoing water issues in Hornlee.
Premier Winde stressed the importance of diagnostics to identify problems and propose timely solutions.
He expressed a commitment to fighting for the town and its preservation, recognizing Knysna's beauty and worth.
