KNYSNA NEWS - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has dared President Cyril Ramaphosa to help put Knysna under administration to fix the service delivery melt-down in the town which includes water, sanitation and refuse issues.
Winde said in response to Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation address that Knysna has been captured by an ANC, EFF and Patriotic Alliance coalition - and implied that nepotism is rife in the town.
He said he was asking Ramaphosa to do this “because that is what is needed”. Winde said the water situation in the town was so bad that the diarrhoea cases at the local hospital are increasing. This claim is as yet unconfirmed.
In Parliament this week, Winde said, “Let me tell you about a town in this province [Western Cape] that is captured. It's a town called Knysna." He said Knysna is run by the ANC, the EFF and the PA and that the way it was running the municipality is a warning for what to expect after the election.
"That town has been captured. All of those entrepreneurs are suffering, all of those citizens are suffering. You know, Mr President, in that town – I’ve just heard the previous speaker speak about places that have no water – that place had water, but today it has no water.
"The people of Hornlee have got no water. They have had no water for five days. They haven’t got sewerage systems – the hospital is picking up more and more diarrhoea cases.
"That coalition – and this is a warning for after the election – that coalition has captured everyone in that town," Winde said.
"The water system in November had a body floating in the water system for 14 days. When they tried to pull the body out the arms fell off. That’s what the ANC, EFF, Patriotic Alliance [coalition] thinks about those citizens. It gives them contaminated water to drink. The rubbish pile is bigger than this inside hall.
"The rats are the size of dogs. The cronies get the contracts. It’s total capture. Mr President, I dare you to help us put that town under administration. Because that’s exactly what needs to happen."
