KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Community Police Forum (CPF) has called on residents to work together in the fight against gender-based violence during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign, which started Wednesday.
The drive against gender-based violence is an annual international campaign that starts on 25 November and runs until 10 December,
Knysna CPF chair Cheryl Britz told Knysna-Plett Herald that the CPF and partners look forward to the campaign each year as another opportunity to deliver a unified message against gender-based violence.
"It remains our collective responsibility to work together to eradicate any form of abuse, by creating awareness and empowering our community about how and where they can get the necessary assistance," she said.
She appealed to the community to take action and speak out. "Our partners, the Knysna police, SAPS Victim Support, Crime Prevention Youth Desk, Knysna Municipality, Department of Correctional Services, Knysna Alcohol and Drug Centre, Famsa Knysna, Department of Health, Hephziba Solutions, Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching, and the Woman's Empowerment Network are all available 365 days of the year to give meaningful support and guidance to victims of this crime against our society," said Britz.
She called on the public to wear the white ribbon as a sign of support to the victims of gender-based violence.
