KNYSNA NEWS - The municipality's joint operations centre says public-interest facilities will continue to be serviced by zone-specific water trucks from 08:30 daily, including on weekends, amid the water supply crisis in the Greater Knysna area.
These facilities included schools, crèches, hospitals and clinics, it said in a statement released jointly with Knysna Municipality, the Western Cape government, Garden Route District Municipality's disaster management directorate, and fire and rescue services.
"Adjustments [to the schedule] will not be made for weekends due to events scheduled at certain sites," the centre said.
Water trucks will continue delivering water to affected communities. The municipality has divided the impacted areas into zones, with each receiving dedicated water delivery between 06:00 and 22:00.
Trucks remain exclusively committed to servicing their assigned zones.
SANParks has stepped in to help residents during the crisis by deploying two of its fire trucks to provide them with water.
"This proactive measure forms part of SANParks’ ongoing commitment to community support and intergovernmental collaboration, especially during times of emergency," SANParks said.
Knysna Municipality has declared Knysna’s water crisis a local state of emergency - in response to infrastructure failures at the Charlesford and Homtini pump stations.
